[UPDATED] Hydra Glide revived for 2024 Harley-Davidson Icons Motorcycle Collection

Hydra Glide to be feature model for Harley-Davidson’s 2024 Icon Series

One of The Motor Company’s more successful marketing ploys has been the creation of the ‘Icon Series’, where homage is paid to classic models of the past, recreated with modern technology.

2021 saw the stunningly faithful reproduction of the 1969 Electra Glide in eye-catching Hi-Fi Blue/Birch White and powered by the latest Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin. It was an instant success and the limited run of 1500 units sold out in a blink.

The following year, 2022, it was the Low Rider El Diablo portrayed as a modern expression of the iconic and highly sought-after Harley-Davidson FXRT models.

Last year, 2023, the jaw-dropping Electra Glide Highway King captured the dreams of many and was inspired by the beloved era of long-haul scenic adventures as depicted in classic movies of the mid-20th century.

As reported previously, 2024 will see a recreation in the name of ‘Hydra-Glide Revival’. Eagle-eyed snoops found documents filed with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that are often tell-tale indicators of new models coming to market.

As part of the company’s 2024 Softail lineup – the same as the 2023's Highway King - the upcoming cruiser will install Harley-Davidson’s latest Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci V-Twin, by far the most popular powerplant in the current lineup.

Hydra-Glide broke cover way back in 1949 and was Harley-Davidson’s first-ever model with telescopic front forks, doing away with the previous springer forks. The model sold for almost ten years, being discontinued in 1957. Do the math and you’ll realise 2024 marks the model’s 75th anniversary which is as good a reason as any for a revival.

If the idea of a Harley-Davidson Icon Series Hyrda-Glide Revival in your garage is appealing, you’d be wise to put your name down now as those 1750 units will be gone before you can say `potato-potato-potato'!
